Peace & Security in Afghanistan:
End the War, Don't Escalate It!

The U.S. occupation of Afghanistan has been a deeply destabilizing force in the region, inflaming resentment and extremism and leading to the deaths of nearly 1,000 U.S. soldiers and several thousand Afghan civilians. While President-elect Obama has called for an end to the Iraq war, he has simultaneously expressed support for hawkish policies toward Afghanistan.  This will mean more casualties, more hatred, and more money wasted on war rather than spent on rebuilding communities here and there. Foreign policy experts and even military brass are speaking out against a surge, which they say is bound to fail. We, too, must raise our voices for policies that prioritize diplomacy, global coop- eration, and true security for the Afghan people.
